Life and careerEdit
Alvares was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to parents Leo and Mariana Alvares (née Guerra). Her family is Portuguese-American and practicing Roman Catholics. They own and operate a local Portuguese restaurant, which Alvares worked in as a waitress during her teenage years. She has two older brothers, Bruno and Paulo, an older sister, Melania, and a younger sister, Isabel.
Alvares attended public schooling in Cranston, graduating from Cranston High School West, where she was the president of the school's national honor society chapter. After graduating, she began attending Columbia University in New York City], graduating with a bachelor's degree in social work. She later received her master's degree in social work from Columbia University as well, returning to Rhode Island afterwards.
Alvares began her pageantry career while competing in the 1st Miss Rhode Island Competition. She went on to win the competition, becoming Miss Rhode Island. She will now represent Rhode Island in the 1st Miss USA Competition.
